This Holy Face Chaplet is intended for those planning to join the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face. The devotion is described by Fr. Lawrence Daniel Carney III as “the devotion destined to save humanity,” echoing Blessed Pope Pius IX’s words: “Reparation is a work destined to save society.” The Chaplet serves as an act of reparation to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts for the profanation of Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, as well as for blasphemy and idolatry—sins increasingly normalized under systems such as socialism and communism.
On November 15, 1843, Sr. Mary of St. Peter, a Carmelite nun of Tours, France, received the Chaplet of the Holy Face from the Lord. It was given to honor the five senses Christ suffered during His Passion and the three years of His public ministry. The Chaplet features Psalm 67 repeated thirty-three times, calling for the scattering of God’s enemies and that they may melt before His Face as wax before fire. This powerful devotion is traditionally observed on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, known as Shrove Tuesday.
The centerpiece medals depict the Holy Face of Christ from the Shroud of Turin, with inscriptions on both sides.
The front bears the Latin phrase Illumina Domine Vultum Super Nos, meaning “Lord, let Thy Face shine upon us.”
The reverse side reads Mane Nobiscum Domine (“Stay with us, Lord”), AMDG (“For the Greater Glory of God”), and features IHS, a monogram for Jesus Christ, Savior.
